Nando’s
Journey of Discovery
Challenge
The core goal of the project was to create an interactive storytelling experience that allows visitors to explore and engage with Nando's history. The objective was to share key milestones from 1987 onward - highlighting moments that shaped both Nando’s as a brand and the world culturally - while encouraging people to explore the campus both inside and out.
Solution
The project implemented a hybrid physical and digital storytelling mechanism designed around an interactive gamified journey:
Physical Plaques & Navigation: A series of physical plaques/plinths were installed across the campus, organised by historical eras (e.g., 1987–1990, 1991–1993, up to 2025). Visitors receive an map at reception to help find each of the plinth’s locations.
The Companion Microsite: Each physical plaque shows the specific era, a unique QR code and a short intro. Scanning the QR code seamlessly bridges the physical experience to a digital mobile microsite. The microsite unlocks immersive animations, expanded timelines, and a digital version of the map showing all plaque locations.
Gamified Digital Tokens & Reward: To drive engagement, visitors collect a unique digital token every time they scan a plaque's QR code and scroll through the page of that era. Once a visitor scans all 11 plaques and collects all the tokens, they are congratulated with the title of an official "Nando's Storyteller" and can present their screen at reception to redeem a special lapel pin of honour.

The last plaque takes you to a microsite, where Robbie Brozin, co-founder of Nando’s, reads a poem inspired by his favourite author and book - Dr Seuss “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” - so that more plaques can be added as the story of Nando’s continues.
